Chopin does not fail to mention the struggle of this imprisoned wife as she is grieving through her husbands death. She suffers from "wild abandonment" and as she faces the window after hearing the big news she feels comfort in watching the "new spring life". Mrs. Mallard, the wife is clearly faced with societal pressures and trapped in this closed atmosphere.
